Sandeep Lamichhane is a Nepali National Cricketer. He was born in 2nd August 2000.
He is a right arm leg-spinner.
Sandeep has played for various T20 franchises across the world such as IPL, BigBash League, CPL and more.
He was contracted by Delhi Daredevils in the IPL 2018 for INR 20 Lakhs. Also he is the first Nepali Cricketer to represent in the IPL.
But he played only 3 games in his first outing in IPL 2018.
He made his international cricket debut in T20I match which was against The West Indies where he was a part of World XI Team.
After his debut against The West Indies he became the only Nepali Cricketer to represent in a combined international cricket match.
He made his ODI debut in August 2018 against the Netherlands. In 2017 Sandeep was named Best NNIPA Youth Player of the year.
Early Life of Sandeep Lamichhane
In his childhood stage he used to consider Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar as his role models. His birth place is Aruchaur, Syanjha District of Nepal.
Then he moved to Chitwan where he started his initial cricketing career. Here he joined Chitwan Cricket Academy which is run by Raju Khadka who is the former Nepal National Cricket Team Captain.
He was very hard working and dedicated towards his cricket. When Captain Paras Khadka and former coach Pubudhu Dasanayake visited Chitwan Cricket academy in search of a young talent they found one in the name of Sandeep.
Thus we know that the rest is history, as he was told to bowl in nets and was picket for the Nepal under-19 Training Camp.
Initial Career of Sandeep Lamichhane
Sandeep made his List A career debut in 2015-2017 ICC World Cricket League Championship on April 16th 2016 which was against African counterpart Namibia.
But before his List A career he was also selected in the Nepal National U-19 Team to play in the 2016 Under-19 cricket World Cup.
Similarly in his second match in U-19 WC against Ireland he took a hat-trick. As his hat-trick was only the fifth hat-trick in the U-19 Cricket world Cup history. So due to this performance he was named Man of the Match having bowling figure of 5 for 27 in 10 overs.
As he finished the tournament with 14 wickets and an average of 17.07. Also he was very economical in that tournament as his strike Rate was 21.9 only.
Thus he was the second highest wicket taker of that tournament.
During the later half of 2016 Lamichhane got a letter from former Australian World Cup winning captain Michael Clarke to play in the Sydney based Western Suburbs District Cricket Club.
Also in 2017 ACC U-19 Asia Cup he was very successful. As he took 5 wickets only for 8 run against Malaysia U-19 Team.
Thus this performance of Sandeep Lamichhane restricted Malaysian Team to only 45 runs all out. So he became the Man of the Match on that game.
T20 Leagues Played by Sandeep Lamichhane
During Jan.2018 he was in the auction list of IPL. As he was bought by Delhi-DareDevils.
Similarly in March 2018 he was contracted to play for St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League.
Also in March made his IPL debut for Delhi-DareDevils and it was a unforgettable moment for not only Sandeep but to the whole Nepali Cricket Fan Club.
In the first match he took one wicket for 25 runs only against Royal Challengers Bangalore. He played only 3 matches in IPL 2018 where he took 5 wickets.
Similarly Sandeep Lamichhane was selected to play for Montreal Tigers in the Inaugral Global T20 Canada Tournament on May 2018.
He took overall eight wickets in the tournament with an average of19.62.
Also in September 2018 Sandeep was named in Nangarhar's squad of the Inaugral Afghanistan Premier League.
In October 2018 he was signed to play for Melbourne stars in Big Bash League (BBL), as he became the first Nepali to play in such a big platform.
Also he was drafted in the Sylhet Sixers of the Bangladesh Premier League for 2018-19 season.
International Career of Sandeep Lamichhane
He played for Nepal National Team in 2018 ICC World Cricket League division Two Tournament. He took a figure of 4 for 18 against Namibia in the opening match of the tournament.
He was involved in a partnership with Basant Regmi of 18 runs which was a crucual one in that match.
Similarly in the match against UAE he took 3 for 30 and UAE was restricted to only 114 runs. In the forth match against Kenya he took 5 wickets which was his first in List-A matches.
Sandeep was awarded with the ICC world Cricket League Division Two Player of the Tournament.
His performance in the tournament was really outstanding as he took 17 wickets in six matches.
ICC named him as one of the top ten players to watch out for ahead of 2018 Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
After the end of qualifiers ICC listed Sandeep as the Rising Star of Nepali Cricket Team.
He also played for ICC World XI against West Indies in T20I matches. As the matches were held to raise funds for the victim of Hurricane in the Caribbean.
In August 2018, he played against Netherlands which was his and Nepal's first ODI status match. As Nepal got its ODI Status in ICC World Cup Qualifier 2018.
Also in August 2018, he was named to play in the Asia Cup Qualifier.
Similarly he was named in the Nepal's squad for the Eastern sub-region Group for 2018-19 ICC World T20 Asia Cup Qualifier.
As he became the top wicket taker of that tournament with 24 wickets in his bucket.
